The North Wind And The Sun/北風と太陽

　

1.The north wind and the sun had a talk about

whicth of them was the storonger.

Far below, a traveler passed along a river.

He was wearing a warm winter coat.

"As a test of strength,

Let us see which of us can

take the coat off of that traveler."

北風と太陽の力くらべ。

川沿いに、一人の旅人が通りがかりました。

彼は暖かいコートに身を包んでいました。

”どちらが旅人のコートを脱がせることができるかな。”

　

2.The north wind blew so hard ,

The birds clung to the trees.

The gale of the north wind felt chilly.

北風が強く吹きつけると、

鳥たちは木々にすがりつきました。

旅人は寒さに身を縮めました。

　

3.The sun shone brightly.

The warmth of the sun felt good.

続いて太陽があかるく輝きました。

旅人は太陽の暖かさが心地よく感じられました。

　

4.Sun warmed the air and the frosty ground.

The trees stretched all their branches.

And the birds sang to their happiness.

太陽は冷えた大地を暖めました。

木々はすべての枝を伸ばしました。

そして鳥たちは幸福に歌いました。

　

5.The traveler took off his coat.

And lay down in a shade of a tree.

旅人はすっかりコートを脱いで、

木陰に寝転んでしまいましたとさ。
